Online Master’s in Clinical Laboratory Science: Medical Laboratory Science Track Curriculum

The online master’s degree in medical laboratory science provides one-on-one work with faculty advisors to help students develop course schedules, choose elective courses and work toward their capstone project. Students can take elective courses either online, hybrid or in person; they may also take elective courses at other colleges and universities. 

The program culminates with a capstone project — its goal is to help each student synthesize their learnings and coursework while addressing a specific problem or important issue in the clinical laboratory profession. Capstone projects may also focus on laboratory education, laboratory operations or advanced laboratory practice.

Learning Outcomes

The online MLS with UNC-Chapel Hill will prepare you to:

  • Lead the clinical laboratory profession in technical, educational, research and administrative roles. 
  • Analyze and apply professional literature in work settings.
  • Communicate with health care providers and the public.
  • Learn continually throughout their professional careers.

Admissions: Online Master’s in Clinical Laboratory Science: Medical Laboratory Science Track

Submit all applications to the UNC-Chapel Hill Master’s of Clinical Laboratory Science: Medical Laboratory Science track online through the submission portal for consideration.

Admissions Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS(ASCP), Medical Technologist MT(ASCP) or equivalent U.S. certification
  • Interview

Additionally, and depending on their certification/education background, applicants may also be required to show proof of two years of work experience in an accredited clinical lab.
